WHAT IT IS

The only Florida state park offering tours of dry, air-filled caves, hand-dug open by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Almost every Florida cave is flooded, which is why this one is a curiosity: a limestone system of stalactites, flowstone, and soda straws that you walk through rather than dive. The CCC enlarged the passages by hand in the 1930s so visitors could pass without crawling. Hurricane Michael flattened the forest above it in 2018 and the park spent years recovering. The caves, being underground, were unbothered.
